With the initial release of the FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus specifications, the demand for FOUNDATION conformant and interoperable devices has increased exponentially. End users have seen the benefits of fieldbus products demonstrated at trade shows and test sites, and have determined that FOUNDATION technology is the correct path to take with their plant control systems.
FOUNDATION Fieldbus presents new and unique challenges for both end users and manufacturers. Manufacturers must be confident with the technology such that they can meet both the demands and expectations of their end users. They need to be able to identify fieldbus applications and need to understand the requirements needed to install those applications on a fieldbus network. They should be confident to discuss the differences between fieldbus and existing technology used in control systems today. End users should be prepared for how FOUNDATION Fieldbus will affect their control system installation and operation.
This two-day course has been designed for end users, marketing professionals, applications engineers, system integrators, developers and others interested in obtaining a fundamental knowledge of FOUNDATION technology.
The FOUNDATION Certified course provides vendor neutral Fieldbus knowledge based on the System Engineering Guidelines (AG-181V3) prepared under the End User Advisory Council (EUAC) of the FieldComm Group for manufactures, contractors and end users of fieldbus enabled field devices and control systems. This course is also best suited for project engineers, control engineers, and all who wish to understand the key issues and procedures of field bus system engineering as introduction level.
The course has eight major goals.
- Students will be familiarized with the basic concepts and new terminology related to FOUNDATION Fieldbus. The technology introduces considerable amount of new terminology that students must be confident with if they intend to be successful with FOUNDATION Fieldbus.
- Students will understand the key strategies for the wiring and installation of a fieldbus network. Special emphasis will be made on such design issues as power requirements, device types, and wiring topologies.
- A basic introduction of the communications will help students understand appropriate device placement and expected bandwidth utilization. This knowledge will aid students in determining the appropriate control strategies, loop times, and device types to be implemented on individual segments.
- We will cover a review of Foundation Function Blocks, the applications that will be the characterizer of the FOUNDATION Fieldbus device. Students will learn the differences between the block types as well as the key components of the standard function blocks defined by the specification. Other concepts reviewed will include mode and status, linkages, alarming, and trending. Furthermore, we will demonstrate the configuration procedure with a tool.
- We will cover the requirements for the components of fieldbus H1 fieldbus architecture. Students will understand the basic criteria to consider during evaluation and selection of the H1 wiring components.
- A detailed look at the H1 segment designs consideration and procedure. It is important to set a design strategy before entering to the individual and detailed segment design. Students walk through a detailed example of the segment design and general procedure.
- We examine the details of the documentation, factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing. This is especially important to the successful project execution.
- Finally, we provide hands on workshop using segment design check tool and segment configuration tool.
The students will be provided with a workbook containing a copy of the presentation materials used during the workshop. Students will be awarded with the course completion certificate after a short test.
BACKGROUND AND PREREQUISITES
The course assumes little or no knowledge of FOUNDATION technology, but students should have a familiarization with process control. Students should already be acquainted with existing 4-20mA technology found in present day installations.
