APL + HART: NOA from Vision to Reality

Presented by Putman Media; sponsored by FieldComm Group

Originally Presented - March 15, 2022

Essential to the NAMUR Open Architecture vision of Process Industry 4.0 is the implementation of complementary parallel paths for real-time, deterministic control tasks on the one hand, and, on the other, all that secondary smart instrument data that is critical to understanding the health and integrity of one’s instruments and the processes they support.

This webinar discusses how key standards such as the suite of HART protocol implementations across analog, wireless and the new generation of Ethernet-APL field instrument networks facilitate the secure integration of instrument data into distributed control system platforms as well as parallel paths into local asset management solutions and even secure cloud-based applications.

Speakers:

Arnold Offner - Phoenix Contact
Neil Peterson - Emerson
Keith Larson - Putman Media

ETHERNET-APL - COMMUNICATION ARCHITECTURE FOR PROCESS AUTOMATION

Presented by FieldComm Group - India Society

    Originally Presented - July 28, 2021

This webinar provides an overview of the Ethernet-APL architecture. Ethernet-APL is a building block for Process Automation digitalization transformation as it offers higher speed of communication, supports all current and future higher-level communication protocols and removes the need for protocol conversions and gateways. This webinar explains the details of the Ethernet-APL architecture and highlights the benefits of this technology for users.

DEVELOPMENTS IN ETHERNET-APL & HART TECHNOLOGIES

Presented by FieldComm Group - India Society

    Originally Presented - April 16, 2021

The webinar shares the strategic directions of the FieldComm Group, lead the development of a unified information model of process automation field devices, while building upon industry investment in the HART®, FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus and FDI™ standards.

Digitalization is happening and Ethernet-APL is one of the key building blocks for this transformation. As an enabling technology Ethernet-APL offers a higher speed and bandwidth using Ethernet as a basis for product development. Everyone from designers, engineering procurement contractors to control and field device developers to plant manufacturers, service providers and end-users will use Ethernet-APL.

WIRELESS SENSORS - DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION USE CASES

Presented by FieldComm Group - India Society

    Originally Presented - January 28, 2021

Plants struggle to achieve their operational excellence goals for all departments to reduce cost, increase revenue, and reduce risk. Digital Transformation, or Industrie 4.0 or IIoT if you prefer to call it that, is a data-centric approach to run and maintain plants to become more predictive and more responsive. Digital transformation means moving from manual and paper-based ways of working to new digital, automatic, software-based, data-driven ways of working. Dashboards, analytics, platform, and sensors are required.

This session will cover the most common plant challenges that companies address, what are the readymade solution available, how to prioritize, as well as expected results and metrics. It will also cover use cases in the areas of reliability, maintenance, and integrity; energy efficiency and loss control; occupational health and safety, as well as production and quality. Several success stories will be shared.

WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK SELECTION FOR PLANTS

Presented by FieldComm Group - India Society

    Originally Presented - September 5, 2020

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technologies are not the same. There are very significant differences and the wrong technology choise for the plant can be unreliable and disruptive for the data users. WSN is a key enabler for Digital Transformation, including IIoT, and one cannot invest in a separate WSN infrastructure for each use case like corrosion, vibration, and leaks etc. So how do you tackle a plant, with all the varieties of advanced sensors from multiple automation vendors available today, integrate them into the existing automation and effectively utilize the sensor intelligence and avoid incompatibility?

This webinar will review the technical solutions to the criteria in the NAMUR NE124 Wireless Automation Requirements recommendation to help you select the right WSN for your plant.

    ETHERNET-APL TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

Presented by FieldComm Group - India Society

    Originally Presented - July 31, 2020

This webinar provides an overview of the Ethernet-APL technology. Ethernet-APL is an enhanced physical layer for single-pair Ethernet (SPE) based on 10BASET1L. It communicates via a cable length of up to 1000 m at 10 MBit/s, full-duplex, which is more than 300 times faster than current technologies, such as HART or fieldbus. It is the logical extension for Ethernet and provides the attributes required for reliable operation in the field of a process plant.
