PlantPAx is Rockwell Automation's process automation system. It combines
the plant-wide control technologies and unmatched scalability of
Integrated Architecture with all the core capabilities expected in a
world-class DCS.
By implementing a single, plant-wide control system, customers can
increase efficiencies and productivity across all layers of their
organization. They are able to integrate process control, discrete
control, power, information and safety into one plant-wide
infrastructure. It eliminates the need for different and disparate
control systems, resulting in significant plant-wide optimization
improvements and reduced total cost of ownership.
PlantPAx is based on several open communication standards, including
FOUNDATION Fieldbus technology which can be integrated by either a
ControlNet or EtherNet/IP communications infrastructure. The flexible
communication infrastructure enables real-time information to be readily
available throughout the enterprise for better business decisions.
The Rockwell Automation FOUNDATION Fieldbus solution offers fault
tolerance throughout the architecture. Options include FOUNDATION
Fieldbus H1 interface redundancy and fault tolerant H1 wiring
architectures. Additionally, the connection between the controller and
the H1 link can take advantage of Device Level Ring (DLR) technology on
EtherNet/IP or redundant media options with ControlNet.
